Good Evening World!

Hello world, I have returned! Did you miss me? If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been for the last 3 month, look no further. I’ve been working at camp (in the media area). Not to be boastful, but I was well loved. Sadly it wasn’t for my good looks, but because I was the one taking pictures and giving out candy. Haha – in all seriousness though, I loved my job! I grew in my leadership abilities and developed personally.

Here’s one of the pictures I took of the sunset last week! God is a great painter, Amen? Amen!

Anyways, I’m looking forward to another great school year in college! And my brother is coming to the same institute as me, so it’s going to be a good time! Some people may not be happy about school starting soon – or may even be anxious. However, I’m really excited about everything that’s to come (Obviously, since my brother is coming & that’s super awesome!).

This year I hope to write more music and learn how to play the guitar. I mean, I can play a few chords, but not fast and in the context of a song. So I don’t really count that as ‘being able to play’ the instrument.

I’m expecting God to do incredible things this year!

On the topic of family, here ya go!

Wonderful Wednesday

I realized I haven’t posted anything on here in a month now, so I figured it’s about time to fix that. If you’ve wondered what I’ve been up to lately, I’ve mostly been reading, working on my writing (stories, not blogging), and doing basic responsibilities. TBH, I’ve been lacking energy lately. Not sure if that’s because my body isn’t used to the heat yet or what. However, it’s definitely frustrating when you have a bunch of things you’d like to do, but little to no energy or motivation to do it. I’m sure more than one person can relate to that.

One thing I’ve learned recently, is to jump on board when I have the motivation to do something. Take the opportunity when it arises, because you never know how you’ll feel later. Of course, there will be times you need to act despite how you feel, however, the point is, if you have the time and the will – dive in! That’s my advice. Anyways, I wanted to write about a few new and wonderful things that I’ve discovered lately – not give life advice (intentionally) – so without further adieu, here’s to a wonderful Wednesday!

  • Christian Rap

I never had any interest in rap music. I just didn’t enjoy it, so I avoided it at all costs and cringed whenever it came on. However, this past school year I was challenged to listen to music I wouldn’t normally for one week. I accepted. During that week I discovered that I do enjoy rap music! Some artists I listened to: NF, Twenty-One Pilates, and Propaganda.

  • Anime & Manga

Yeah I’m a nerd and I’m not afraid to show it! One of my favourites (still) has to be the first one I ever watched, which is called “Fruits Basket”. I’ve watched the anime and recently finished the first book in the manga series. I’m looking forward to reading the second. (Of course, I’ve got a few animes I’m watching, but for the sake of this post I thought I’d keep it short.)

  • Books

Some of you are thinking: “Hey! She’s always liked books! What’s new about that?”. And yes, that’s true, I’ve always been a book lover. However, lately I’ve finally been able to get back into something wonderful called ‘pleasure reading’. I know, right? What a concept! I have to admit, it took a while to transition from analyzing books for school into actually enjoying them. I think I’ve got the hang of it again now!

Read, Book, Reading, Literature, Books

  • Writing

Similar to my book/reading situation – mentioned above – I haven’t had much time to write stories with homework on my to-do list. After school ended, however, I was able to get back into that as well! So, I’m inspired and working away at a few different novels! It’s looking promising, so far. I find reading and writing very exciting and it continues to inspire my creative mind!

Girl, Flowers, Throw, Orange, Beauty

  • Self-discovery

This is going a little off topic – since it’s different than the other points – however, I wanted to mention it. Lately, I’ve made some internal progress. I find it a little strange because I wasn’t actively working on this recently. So, I’m not sure what changed, but I’ve begun  to accept myself – flaws and all – instead of letting what others think define me. People-pleaser (and perfectionist) are definitely phrases that have described me in the past. However, I think I’ve started to let go of my insecurities and be more comfortable with who I am. I can only explain it by saying that it must be a work of God in my life. I’ve struggled with these insecurities for so long, that it’s really encouraging to finally hear an alternative voice saying “This is who you are. It’s okay. Just be yourself.”

What are some new and wonderful things that have come into your life? What have you discovered lately?

Last Minute Christmas Gifts

This season can be a very busy time for a lot of people. Sometimes with all of our responsibilities and/or distractions, it can be a rush to get everything done. With that said, here are some Christmas ideas for those of you who may be trying to get last minute gifts.

First of all, when looking for a gift for a friend of family member, it’s good to show that you’ve put some thought into it. What kind of things do they enjoy? What are their hobbies?

  1. Journalling / Writing

Does the person you’re buying for enjoy writing or journalling? Journals, notebooks, etc. can be great gifts. They are appreciated by the recipient and can be used for a multitude of different things. notebook-731212_960_720.jpg

2. Books

So maybe the individual isn’t a writer… well, do they enjoy reading? Books are a thoughtful gift and will definitely make the day of any book lover! Don’t know the type of book they like? I know sometimes gift cards can be looked down upon as being a cheap way of avoiding a serious gift… but honestly, a book lover will be ecstatic to receive a gift card to a book store.

3. Music

As a side note, I’m not just basing this off of things that I like….  I know these are generally good basic gift ideas.

Okay, so if they enjoy music, you can get them a CD of an artist they like. Just make sure they don’t already have it. If you don’t personally know, it’s fairly easy to find out from another close friend or family member. And if they don’t collect CDs, an iTunes card is always a valid option.

4. Movies

Is there a movie or TV show they really enjoy? That’s another option. Or instead, you could actually take them to see something in theatres. That way they receive a gift, but also get an enjoyable experience while spending time with you.

5.  DIY

Not everyone is the ‘creative type’. However, if you are on the creative side, this can be in your favour. Not all projects can take excessive amounts of time, like knitting a scarf. To start, you could make your own Christmas cards instead of buying them in the store. It’s more personal because even if it doesn’t take a long time, it still shows that you put in effort and thought. If you aren’t sure what to write, there are plenty of quotes, blessings, Bible verses and more that you can find online.

The possibilities are endless, only limited to what you can come up with. One quick idea is putting together a hot chocolate mix. There are multiple different recipes, but some ingredients you can put together are: cocoa, sugar, chocolate chips, marshmallows, and crushed peppermint or candy canes.

I could continue on with other suggestions of quick and inexpensive last minute gift ideas. However, the main thing is to know the individual you are buying for – their interests, likes, etc. The gift doesn’t have to be big or really expensive, but just something that the person would enjoy and/or could use.

In the end, just remember. Christmas is more about making moments and memories. Spending time with the people you care about can honestly be the greatest gift. They will understand if you’re not in the place to give gifts this year.

Memorable Moments

Hello everyone! I’m back from the void! I feel sad that I haven’t written  anything here since October. However, my life became really crazy in the latter half of the semester with all the assignments and studying for exams.

I will strive to change this in the new year. It’s one of my goals to organize myself – my priorities, etc. – and to schedule and plan better.

There have been many hard and painful moments of this year. Yet, I will still look back at 2015 with fondness. It has been fun and encouraging to make some new friendships. I also feel like I’ve personally developed and grown significantly. Everything considered, I look forward to this new year with hope and excitement. I’ll trust God and await to see what lies in store for me. Whatever happens, I know I’m not alone. I’m loved and surrounded by a community that cares for me.

I enjoy this season of the year because it’s a time when family comes together. Joy, hope, peace and love are in the air. However, let’s also remember to be thinking of and praying for those who will have a difficult time dealing with pain and loss.

What are you looking forward to over this Christmas and holiday season?

What If We Were Bold?

It’s story time! So get comfortable, listen and prepare to be challenged.

A girl sits in a coffee shop. Visibly upset, she fumbles around on her phone texting. She leans back in the chair and stares hard at nothing in particular. Giving up, tears fall down her cheeks and she looks down in defeat. Frustratedly she checks her phone again, swiping back and forth to different pages. Momentarily she notices two women sitting in a booth beside her. She doesn’t pay much attention to them, but soon enough she notices they’re talking about faith. Time feels like an eternity as it passes by. Still struggling, she gathers her things, disappears into the washroom and wipes away her tears. Then she passes by the women, still talking about church and faith, and leaves the coffee shop.

This story really struck me hard today. Know why? It’s because that’s actually my true story. I am that girl, struggling and crying in the coffee shop, feeling overwhelmed with the stresses of life. But how many times have I been like those women? Have I talked about my faith with a friend or family member, when there is someone around me hurting? I’m sure there have been times I haven’t noticed or even ignored people.

We’re all so busy now that we don’t have time for others. We don’t notice. Now in order to get help we have to book an appointment with someone whose job IS to listen to you.

The challenge for myself and for you all is this question: what would happen if we were bold? What if we took time to look around us? If we listened to others, and reached out, despite it being abnormal or awkward, what impact would we have on our neighborhoods and cities? What if you are the one, that by reaching out, changes or saves someone’s life?

My Favourite Quotes

On this Saturday, I thought I would share some of my favourite quotes! I hope it gives you all a little inspiration this weekend.

Aesop

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

C.S. Lewis

“You can never have a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

Victor Hugo
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.”

Plato

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

George Carlin

“Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.”

Oscar Wilde

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”

Apple Inc.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

In conclusion, I just want to say that I really like C.S. Lewis – and the Narnia series. Also, I honestly think that there’s something special about music and the effect it has on us.  And regardless where you stand on the Apple vs. PC debate, I think we all can agree that this quote has pretty much nailed it!

Let me know in the comments – what are some quotes you like?
